In this project side mount channel is used to create a completely frameless glass balustrade. By fixing the channel beneath the floor, and running the flooring up to the top of the channel, the glass appears to rise out of the floor. Toughened and laminated glass has to be used in frameless balustrades, as it provides the ‘structural’ element. A handrail isn’t needed once toughened and laminated glass is being used, as in the unlikely even that a panel breaks, there will still be a barrier protecting the edge. Therefore, having a handrail is purely a cosmetic decision. In projects such as this one, it means that the balustrade truly looks ‘frameless’.
To create a totally frameless glass balustrade like this requires planning a lot earlier in the project. Especially when incorporating with waterproofing, the balustrade has to be allowed for before the roof is waterproofed or fibre-glassed. If left to the end of the project, there’s a balustrade needed to make the edges safe, but nowhere to fix into.
Did you know that we keep a huge range of fixings in stock ready for next day delivery? We can supply everything you need to fully install the balustrade. Rather have it all onsite waiting for you? We can ship directly to site, so that the entire balustrade is ready to install, all labelled up to correspond with the supplied installation schedules. Making life easier for the installer, we do it so you don’t have to!
