Frosted Glass

Frosted or privacy glass is often popular in areas that are highly populated or could be overlooked. Privacy glass can be a requirement stipulated as part of the planning permission, for the benefit of both the homeowner and their neighbours. Provided it isn’t a condition of planning permission, coloured or frosted glass is a completely individual choice. There are all kinds of different colours and finishes available, to create that statement balustrade. The amount of light that is transmitted depends on the exact colour and type of glass that is used. This is important to keep in mind, as it can make a huge difference to the finished overall appearance of the balustrade.

All of our stainless steel components can be supplied in a super marine mirror polished finish. We recommend a mirror polished finish in coastal or marine environments, as it is much more effective at combating the effects of t-staining. This is because it has a much lower overall surface area than brushed satin finish. Satin finish stainless steel has tiny grooves on the surface, which can trap impurities in the air, leading it to look as though it has rusted.

One problem we often come across is that the practical requirements for a balustrade aren’t considered until towards the end of a project. Sometimes that means working around waterproofing, or trying to fix into a substrate that isn’t strong enough. This can cause challenging situations that require creativity and hands on expertise to solve. Our technical team always rise to the challenge, and there is always a solution to every obstacle.

In this project, a combination of factors meant that we had to create bespoke components that matched the rest of the balustrade. This is slightly more tricky when everything is mirror polished, but can absolutely be done. The fantastic bit about this project is you can hardly tell where we had to create bespoke parts to overcome a problem – these are incorporated seamlessly into the overall design.

As any installer can tell you, even with all the best will in the world, things on site often don’t go to plan. Human errors will always happen, and we’d be the first to admit that we make them too. However we believe that it isn’t the mistake that’s important, its how you approach fixing it. And that’s where White Metal excel! We are always on hand to help and advise, and will go the extra mile to help you make every job a success.
