Barn Conversion Staircase
Glass has soared in popularity and is now one of the top materials of choice within architecture and interior design. It gives an open and airy touch to a space, and complements contemporary spaces regardless of its application. Despite this, there’s the common misconception that glass is quite limiting as a material when, in reality, its versatility and style makes it an ideal design option in any home.
This project involved the conversion of a barn into a stunning family home. The landing forms a mezzanine above the kitchen area, needing balustrading on either side. To maximise the space and design, frameless glass balustrading was used up the stairs and along the landing.
When using stand-offs, laminated glass must be used. This is to provide the necessary strength, and also to form a barrier in the unlikely event that a panel breaks. We can supply backspacers to any custom size, to suit any installation requirements. However, our 770 brackets come with a 15mm back spacer as standard. Once installed, 15mm allows for cleaning behind the glass, and is also large enough to not be a finger trap.
For fixing stand-offs into a timber substrate, we supply wood-to-metal dowels or metric threaded timber inserts. Both provide a very strong fixing into timber. 033 Timber Inserts are 30mm deep, making them ideal in situations where there isn’t a depth of stringer to fix into.
